Sighted Guide Volunteers

Sighted Guide Volunteers are URGENTLY Vrequired throughout Northumberland to safely guide someone with sight loss while they participate in a variety of activities. As a Sighted Guide you will undergo training and learn to safely guide someone with sight loss to get out and about in their local community and participate in a range of activities whilst building self-confidence, increasing social interaction, and promoting independence.

Skills/Experience: 

  • Have a passion to help someone within the VI community.

  • Being patient, empathetic, warm and friendly.

  • Have good verbal communication skills. 

  • Be physically fit enough to guide a person.

  • Be willing to undertake any training as reasonably required.

  • Minimum age for this role is 18.

  • A DBS check will be required.



Volunteer Drivers

Volunteer drivers are required throughout Northumberland to provide transport and one to one guidance/assistance to vision impaired people. This will involve provide a transport service to blind and visually impaired people looking to achieve greater independence but require support to attend to clubs and support groups, hospital appointments and events.

Skills/Experience: 

· Volunteers must be willing to provide assistance to vision impaired passengers

· Have a friendly and patient manner

· A current clean driving license and insurance

· Willingness to maintain a good understanding of the Highway Code and relevant safety legislation is required
