Being diagnosed with hearing loss can leave you worrying about coping with everyday tasks. You may be afraid of losing your independence but there are solutions available to help.

Vision Northumberland’s Hearing Loss Coordinator can support you to access aids and equipment that can help you overcome these new challenges, provide advice and order items on your behalf.

A corded landline telephone

Landline telephones
Corded and cordless phones for the deaf/hard of hearing. Amplified (extra loud), many phones will work with a hearing aid or cochlear implant on the 'T' or Loop program.

Hearing loss equipment

Mobile phones
Hearing aid compatible mobiles, designed for those with hearing loss which are louder and clearer than regular phones. Modern smartphones also have built-in accessibility for those with hearing loss.

Alarm clocks
Alarm clocks that incorporate features such as very loud sounds, vibrating pads and flashing strobe lights.

Wireless doorbells
Doorbells that come with portable chime units that can be placed around the home, in multiple rooms or retained on your person. Many come with different chime sounds with adjustable volumes and some have flashing lights.

Smoke alarms
Available with vibrating pads which fit under your pillow as well as flashing strobe lights.

Personal listener
A personal amplifier that makes hearing easier from a distance or in noisy environments. Additional accessories are available, i.e. headphones, hearing aid induction neck loop.
